Michael Jackson Returns in "This Is It"
Michael Jackson Returns in 'This Is It' |
By Penelope Poulou Washington 31 October 2009 |
Four months after Michael Jackson's sudden death, a film on his final days has opened around the globe. The movie called "This Is It" will play for two weeks only but may be extended.
The film, part documentary part musical concert, is based on Jackson's rehearsals for his London stage performances. They were scheduled for July but cancelled because of his untimely death.
Director, producer Kenny Ortega stitched together the 2-hour film from 120 hours of behind the scenes footage. "This is like a little backstage pass, a private peak into a creative process of a great genius," he says.
Jackson is electrifying. His moves are sharp. His musical sensibility flawless. His rhythm is so precise he's like a metronome.
Jackson was plagued by scandal, debt and rumors of failing health, and many questioned whether he could pull off a grand comeback.
But according to Ortega, Jackson envisioned his concerts as his crowning achievement, the spectacle to end all spectacles. "We had new technology with video, costuming, lighting with sound, with pyrotechnics. I came to know very quickly that Michael liked things hotter, bigger, louder," he says.
The film shows Jackson in top shape. Immersed in his work, he was the creative spirit behind a supercharged production showcasing the hits of a lifetime.
People waited in line for hours, in the rain, outside a Washington DC movie theater, hoping for tickets to the only screening before the sold-out premiere.
They were not disappointed.
On its opening day worldwide, the film topped the box office, raking in $66.6 million. But it's not only about money. The movie reaffirms Jackson's genius and gives a glimpse of his comeback, had there been one. Fan or no fan, one leaves the theater heartbroken at the loss.

Is Anything Made in America Today?
Is anything made in the USA anymore?
That’s a good question.
It seems when we go shopping everything we find is made in another country,
But the USA is still a big producer in the following products:
Cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, soaps, paints and fertilizers.
Transportation equipment: motor vehicles and parts, aeorspace products, trains and ships.
Processed foods, beverage and tobacco products.
Computers and electronics

Elvis Presley Movie--Love me Tender
Elvis Presley in the movie--LOVE ME TENDER
I just watched the move LOVE ME TENDER. I had seen it when I was young, actually when I was first married, but had forgotten a lot of it. A cute story about the first time I saw Elvis on screen in the movie theater: We had a beautiful movie theater downtown, and I hadn't been married very long. My hubby and I decided to go and see Elvis in this new movie. The movie started and the girls in the audience started screaming everytime Elvis wiggled. My hubby said to me, “why do you think those girls are screaming?” He was very annoyed, and I just said, “ I don't know.” hehe It was all I could do to stay still in my seat. I didn't realize this was his movie debut until much later. Elvis is still the KING OF ROCK AND ROLL.
I found this review of the movie. Elvis might not have been the star of the movie, but he stole the show. One thing I didn't like was the fact that he died at the end of this movie.
Elvis Presley made his motion picture debut in the Civil War drama, LOVE ME TENDER. Elvis, however, is not the star of the proceedings: that honor goes jointly to Richard Egan and Debra Paget. The story concerns three brothers--Egan, William Campbell and James Drury--who steal a Union payroll on behalf of the Confederacy, only to discover that the war is over and that they're now technically outlaws. Rather than return the money, the brothers divvy it up amongst themselves. Upon returning home, Egan discovers that his sweetheart (Debra Paget) has married Elvis, his youngest brother. Since. LOVE ME TENDER has been played incessantly on TV since the early 1960s, it is giving away nothing to reveal that the film is one of two in which Elvis Presley's character dies at the end. Naturally, Elvis is afforded plenty of opportunities to sing: the scene in which he launches into an anachronistic hip-swivelling performance at a county fair is one of the high points of mid-1950s.
